Description

For this I added Ha to the Lum and R channels and Oiii to the Lum and B channels.

Expansion of the nebula was detected in the early 20th century and tracing the expansion into the past, the nebula was associated with the observations of Chinese astronomers in 1054 of a "guest star" which for a time was visible in the day time and is now known to be a supernova.

The nebula was observed by Charles Messier in 1758 and became the first entry in his catalog of comet like objects.  At the time he was looking for the reappearance of Halley's Comet and at first mistook the nebula for the comet.
